The gaming and adtech industry saw lots of shifts in October, with new reports from Q3 and the summer being released, new jobs and layoffs, and a change in strategy from Ubisoft. Check out all the major gaming and adtech news updates below.
GAMING
Industry: Although the US population that plays games fell to pre-Covid levels, mobile still remains the largest gaming platform in the US – attracting 65% of all consumers this year.
Reports: Two new reports from Newzoo were released this month – the summer’s most-played games and the top games by revenue in Q3 2024. Check both of them out!
Jobs: Funplus opened a new studio in Lisbon, where 50 jobs will be created. As for layoffs, AppLovin and Machine Zone have let go an unknown number of staff. In a surprising shift in direction, Netflix closed its triple-A studio while making staff cuts to their broader games team.
Games: Ubisoft announced yet another shift in games, canceling its puzzle and decorate game Gwen’s Getaway. This comes after they recently paused the rollout of soft launch geos for Rainbow Six Mobile, delayed the launch The Division Mobile and Assassin’s Creed Jade, and closed a studio it had rebranded to Future Games of London.
ADTECH
AI: As Apple Intelligence starts to roll out, there are still concerns rising about AI content misuse. To combat these concerns, Google announced they will make their tech for watermarking AI-created text available to developers.
