Emily Netherland joined exmox almost a year ago and has since grown exmox’s online presence through its website and social media. In this interview, she gives us insights into the daily life of a growth marketing manager, her responsibilities, her favorite projects to work on, and more.
What are the general responsibilities of a growth marketing manager?
My job is to grow exmox’s brand through a variety of data-driven marketing strategies. The end goal is to drive new business and engage with clients, and I accomplish this by optimizing our website, LinkedIn, and Instagram. I work on SEO, analytics and reporting, writing our blog, creating a glossary, posting on our social media, and running our newsletter. I get to showcase the very best of exmox!
Why were you interested in joining the rewarded UA industry?
I joined exmox almost a year ago, and it caught my eye because of its unique business model. I’d never heard of, or at least paid much attention to, rewarded loyalty platforms. Once I learned more about the company and the substantial role I would play in helping it capture other people’s attention, I knew I’d found the right job.
How does a growth marketing manager spend a typical day?
Like all other digital marketers, I start by checking in on all our platforms and dashboards. I then take a look at the agenda for the day, which I plan out at the start of each week to keep me on track. What I do in a day is highly dependent on where we are in the month and on projects, so I could be working on anything from writing a blog post to creating our monthly newsletter to updating spreadsheets. I also spend time each week interviewing people for a variety of content, like our employee spotlights and new starter posts. Every afternoon consists of making sure the website is functioning properly, doing some keyword research, and writing copy for the week’s posts. I make sure to devote some time each day to general research and brainstorming – that’s the best way for me to make sure I prioritize content creation.
What’s been one of your favorite projects that you’ve worked on?
My favorite projects are our success stories. I love getting to collaborate more with the team, highlight our incredible results, work with our partners, and of course it’s very gratifying to see everything come together in the end. Success stories often require weeks or months of work behind the scenes, and getting to finally launch everything is super exciting!
What makes exmox special? What’s your favorite thing about coming to work here?
Since I’m usually the one interviewing people for these spotlights, I hear a lot of answers to this question. It’s always a version of “the people”. As I listen to everyone explain their answers further, I’ve realized it really comes down to enthusiasm. The reason exmox functions together so well is the pure enthusiasm and hard work that each person brings to the team. Without this dedication and desire to be working for something greater, we wouldn’t be nearly as successful as we are today!
If you could give advice to someone wanting to work in marketing, what would you say?
Marketing is a huge field, and it can be overwhelming to find where you fit into the puzzle! My advice is to try out as many industries and roles as possible in the beginning of your career, because then you can discover what niche in marketing you really want to be in.
